The private detective figure in Spain, is regulated by the Private Security law 23/1992 dated 30th July, as well as the royal bylaw 2364/1994 and the Ministry of Justice of 07 July 1995.

The functions of the private detective appear written in the article 19 of mentioned Private Security law:

“The private detectives, as per requirement of person or company, will deal with:

• Acquiring and retrieving information and evidence about private behaviour and facts.
• - Investigation of offences that may be prosecuted on the request of the affected party only and ordered by the authorised parties during the criminal process.
• Vigilance in fairs, Hotels, exhibitions or similar places.”
